During the Summer of 2023, New City Church began a sermon series called "Lies We Believe: How Gospel Truths Free Us." In the Spring a friend shared a vision she had during a prayer gathering of my heart breaking free of the restraints that strangled it.

I sketched the image and knew I had to bring the image into the real world. As I began working on this piece of art, a pastor in the church found out I was making it and requested to use the image I was working on for the Sermon Series graphic.

This sermon series graphic centers around the theme of the danger of lies and embracing the liberating power of Gospel truths. A human heart is entangled by falsehood, barbed wires ensnare the heart, leading to a longing for Gospel-empowered liberation. The series title, "Lies We Believe," sits on the side, with the subtitle, “How Gospel Truths Free Us,” accompanying the imagery to convey the transformative journey from deception to the profound freedom found in embracing the words of truth in the Gospel.
I worked with a friend to create a video bumper for the worship gatherings during the sermon series. This transitioned the service from worship and fellowship into a time to listen to a message.
Using the Parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32, I dispelled the lie that love is conditional by showing that it is a gift received by accepting it.

To disprove the lie that “God Can’t Be Trusted, I preached through Genesis 3 to show how God’s acts of mercy prove he is good and that we can trust him.
