Dr. Belinda McMurry needed help to improve her department’s PR. My partner and I developed a new slogan and designed captivating signage to revitalize and diversify SEMO's Polytech School.
Dr. McMurry saw the need to communicate accurate information about the Polytech Department of Southeast Missouri State University to increase the school’s registration and graduation rates and grow diversity. She invited me and another student to join her inaugural Polytech PR Team, an independent study to help improve the department’s public relations.
My classmate Katrina and I began documenting misinformation about the department shared during tours and interest fairs and gathered registration data to confirm the disparity of female representation in the Polytech Department.
We presented our findings and a proposal that included creating a new department slogan, printed handouts, and signage for use at campus events and tours and were approved to move forward without any hesitation.
With the new department slogan to ground us, we began designing a pull-up and trifold for the department. Katrina handled most of the trifold design while I focused on capturing images for use on our new Pull-up and Tri-Fold and subsequent designs.
After printing our new PR Materials, accurate information about what the Polytech Department did was conveyed on tours and we saw an increase in female registration the following fall semester.
